Bulk Roll and Sleeve Media
As an alternative to fiberglass and polyester disposables, bulk and sleeve roll media is an economical alternative. The difference in cost comes from the elimination of the holding frame. In order to use bulk or sleeve media, you must first purchase an acceptable holding frame. Bulk media frames usually have clips and screen retaining grid on the downstream side. Bulk media is then cut from large rolls to fit into the frame. Sleeve media uses rebar frames which the new sleeve media slides over. Efficiencies are the same as the disposable style, fiberglass media is generally a MERV 1-4 and Polyester media is a MERV 4. Both media types are less than 20% efficient and offer little value in improving Indoor Air Quality. They are used in low velocity applications that require minimum resistance across the filter. The recommended change out period is between 30 days and 3 months.
Manufacturer variations include:
• Auto Roll Cores- For use in old auto advancing media systems. The core is dependant on manufacturer and model and must be matched up correctly in order to advance on the system. • Fiberglass and Polyester bulk roll- Various thicknesses, backings, layers, and tackifier applications. • Sleeve Roll- Available in 2 and 3 Ply polyester only. Edges can be heat sealed or sewn.
Positives:
• Very inexpensive, only paying for media • Custom sizes available • Very low resistance
Negatives:
• No value for improved Indoor Air Quality • Require purchase of expensive metal holding frames • Off loading of captured dirt when full |
